Our Ethos
We practice natural ways of farming here at Peppermint and Poppies. We don’t use harsh chemicals or fertilisers and try not to use single use plastics. We practice regenerative farming methods – that is we use no dig methods and add plenty of organic matter to the land. By not using pesticides we encourage pollinators and other wildlife.
British Grown flowers are a sustainable choice. With flowers coming from as far afield as Kenya and Columbia it’s unsurprising that imported flowers constitute the largest carbon footprint in our weekly shopping list. Our flowers have often only come from a few miles away or just down the road to you.
We would encourage you to buy our flowers for their wonderful scent and freshness . As the The vast majority of the flowers we buy in this country are imported most of them will have been bred to withstand international shipping and mass production and will not have much scent if any. Our flowers will have been picked no more than a day before you receive them and should be gloriously scented.
“Isn’t it time we thought about flowers as we increasingly think about food: valuing seasonal, fresh, locally grown, unusual varieties over mass imports?” Flowers from the Farm.
